Art Lecture by Joy Pepe "From Madonna and Child to Mother and Child"

The Madison Art Society will present an art history lecture by the popular speaker and professor Joy Pepe.

Her topic "From Madonna and Child to Mother and Child" will examine the origins and development of the holy figures of the Madonna and Child in Western imagery and their secularization into mother and child imagery in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Joy Pepe is professor emerita of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and is currently teaching Art History at Central Connecticut State University and a Museum and Exhibition Practices course at the University of Hartford.

The lecture is presented in conjunction with the Madison Art Society Members' Show on exhibition at the Scranton Memorial Library, 801 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT.  The works in the show can be viewed both upstairs over the computers and downstairs in the community room.  The Members' show runs from February 1-26, 2016.
