Madison Art Society Announces top awards winners

The Madison Art Society is happy to announce the top award winning works at their 39th Annual Juried Show.  The Best in show award went to Old Saybrook artist, Laurel B. Friedmann for her silverpoint entitled "Anatomy of a Wedding Dress".

 Second prize was awarded to Deborah Quinn-Munson of                       Chester for her pastel, " Master Artist Volunteer".  Third prize went to Branford artist Maggie Dean for her oil painting entitled "Mid-morning Light".  Sandra Kensler of Madison won the Diane Aeschilman award for her oil "On Monhegan Island".  
The awards were determined by juror Alain Picard, an esteemed pastelist and oil painter. In his juror's statement Mr. Picard wrote "

"The Madison Art Society's 39th Annual Juried Show is a celebration of light, expressed through a broad spectrum of surface, style and media.  The quality and diversity of this exhibition is a testimony to the immense talent of the artists displayed herein. I was uplifted by both traditional and contemporary approaches, with styles ranging from representational to fully abstract. "

21 awards and prizes, totaling $3650, were awarded at the opening reception on May 8th.  Also at the reception MAS donated $500 to the Scranton Library in thanks for their support of the arts and for offering their community room as the exhibition space for MAS shows and related events.

The Madison Art Society is grateful for the many donors in the community who contributed the awards and the talented artists who entered their best works.  The exhibit can be viewed untilMay 30, 2014 at the Scranton Library 801 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT.
